Search and Seizure: Expectations of a Student? - student rights search and seizure

I take a trip through my school in New York yesterday, the director of my school, we said that we seek our pockets. I would like to know if he can do.

There are two situations I can imagine:
"It will really see all the bags and the search for contraband
or
"He tried to stop us to bring the contraband and not checked bags.

Please tell me what are my rights as a student in New York!
